Slurpy soup ~ Keichee Yuk Chuk Chicken soup

This is the easiest soup recipe, hardly any work to do yet taste

yummy yummy.

You will need kei chee, ya that's the one in red.

It is good for the eyes they say...

Wonder if it is really true.

Just a handful of kei chee....

And a handful of yuk chuk. Remember to wash them thoroughly.

It is sometimes mouldy, but when cut it does not seem so.

Cook the two with chicken , I use chicken wings.

Boil them for an hour or so. Add some chicken stock if it is not sweet enough

and some salt to taste. Yuk Chuk is a bit sweetish, mind you.

See the halfway done soup..........

After boiling and cooked, it is one word............slurpy....

Serikaya

This is a recipe for serikaya, to be used as a spread for bread or

or as a spread to the salty cream crackers.

You need 3 eggs,

An equal amount of thick coconut milk, meaning without adding water.

an equal amount of sugar,

and some daun pandan.

So, altogether taken, this is what you need. I used the same cup to make

equal amounts.

As for the eggs, I measured them with the cup and put them into a

bigger cup. So, it looks a bit odd.

Combine the sugar and the eggs and stir it to dissolve the sugar.

I double the sugar and eggs by placing a pot over a deep pan.

Actually one needs to sieve the mixture but I didn't.

When sugar has dissolved, add the pandan leaves and coconut milk.

Stir the mixture until it is cooked.

It takes about one and a half hour.

In the process, caramelise a spoonful of sugar to give you a brown colour and

add it to the mixture.

This is the half finished product,

and the finished serikaya.

This is the amount you will get with the three eggs. It is not so smooth,

because I didn't sieve the mixture in the process earlier.

Happy cooking.

Moving around Jakarta.....local way

Money , money , money..........

It's a rich man's world.

See the crisp USD that can only be accepted to be changed to Rp, in Jakarta.

The rates would be lower if they are crumpled.

These are the local school children in Jakarta, after school hours.

The school is located in the suburbs.

Usually they walk back home, or catch a minivan.

The cost of a ride for an adult is Rp 3, 500.

To travel in a minivan, one has to bear the fumes from outside and the smell

of human odour fro inside.

It is bearable, I suppose.

Anyway, one passes by nice scenerey..

Until the final destination.............one would be happier if it is............

Puri Indah Mall....

Smiles when you are inside.............Happy shopping.

Fiery chillies in Jakarta

Chillies come in many varieties of colours.

In Jakarta also , one can get these everywhere as the population use

a lot of chillies everyday.

And they are cheap too.

One packet of the above costs only Rp 2000.

Chop them up and accompanied by chopped garlic with some soy sauce would be wonderful.

Have a good look at them, so fresh.

And, finally one last look before I finish them up.

The taste is good and spicy hot.

Fast food....slow food~~ Jakarta style

See what I have, fast food...

Soupy noodles. When there is a promotion, then there is a free drink of

tea in a bottle. Just too lovely to resist.

Can't seem to find my bottle of tea. Maybe, drank it too fats and taken away.

The other food I took was a bit classy type, in Plaza Senayan.

Wanted so much to try something special from that place.

Ordered some kind of Chicken rice and noodles.

A lot of herbs thrown in too.

Food is aplenty in Jakarta, and this is all in the West.

More is found in other parts of Jakarta. Jakarta is really big.

Now only I know. Hope it is not too late.

Taman Anggerek Mall

Taman Anggerek Mall in West Jakarta is a big shopping mall....it has apartments

within the whole building.

So it is a convenient place to stay.

One can stay, eat and live a comfortable life.

Outside the mall, there are some hawker stalls selling local food.

See, inside you can find western food aplenty, like Pizza hut.

Furthermore, there is an exhibition hall for daily happenings.

See the Toyota road show in progress........

You will not be bored to live here.

Glodok Street food

Glodok is Chinatown in Jakarta...

By mid afternoon or around 5pm almost all the shopw would be closed for the day.

Usually by that time, one feels hungry..

Look around you and you will find street food..not too many but.....

at least some to save your stomach.

This is a stall that I like, outside one of the shops.

He fries mihun, mee, or even fried rice.

The taste is good, see I forgot to take picture until the last minute...

And after having a plate of fried mihun,I would like some dessert. But, alas,

the soya bean drink hawker says...Finished , no more, lady.

So, I opted for steamed nuts. Nice, crunchy and fresh boiled (not steamed) nuts.

See? The hawker is happy and proud of his nuts. It is cheap too, sorry I forgot the price.

Happy eating, my friend.

Bakso Jawir Citra II

Bakso Jawir, a famous beef ball noodles in Jakarta.

The one featured in this article is in Tanjong Duren.

They call it the Citra II branch.

The workers wear a red and black uniform. They look real smart and clean.

And quite systematic too.

The service is good and fast and the workers are young.

I like this bakso because it is tasty.

See what i mean, and the beef balls are big.

As big as ping pong balls,

And the best part of it all, chillies are fiery hot, and one can have as much as one wants.

I feel satisfied after getting a bowl of mihun.

Really nice to eat there, clean efficient service.

Tables are also aplenty.

It seems they open in the morning at around 11 am, and at night too.

Go and try it yourself, you won't regret it.

Garbage enzyme ~~ The making of

Today, feel like making garbage enzyme to use 3 months later.

Garbage enzyme......an enzyme to 'eat' up the garbage, and convert garbage to

environmentally friendly produce. It also reduces ozone in the process.

After washing plates, flush some of the enzyme into the sink. It helps.

Of course, I do not use it just like that.

I mix 1 part of enzyme to 10 parts of plain water, and use the mixture to:

(a) wash hair........hair will be squeakingly clean, will not itch so much.

(b) mop the floor.........add the mixture to our floor cleanser and step on the

mopped floor. You will feel the difference.

(c) wipe the mixture on shelves and cabinets. Ants won't come anymore.

There are still many more ideas, please tell me, ok?

How to make the enzyme??

You will need

(1) 1 kg brown sugar
(2) 3 kg orange skin (other skins for other flavours)
(3) 10 litres water

You can use part of the recipe, but calculate the % properly.

You will need two 5 litres water bottles. Please clean them before using them.

Get ready the 3 kg orange skins.....some people use pineapple skins.

Cut up the skins and put them inside the two bottles.

Dissolve the brown sugar in some of the water (from the 10 litres water)

Put the dissolved brown sugar to the bottles and top up with the plain water.

Remember to leave some space between the cap and the water level.

Why? Gases will be formed in the process, they need some space.

During the first week, loosen the cap to remove the gas.

Remember, use a air tight water container.

You do not want to see worms wriggling if it is not air tight.

Now, the whole process is complete.

Leave the containers aside. It can only be used on 12 February 2009.

Only after 3 months, ok??

I did one round in August, now it is ready to be used.

See the difference? I packed them into 500 ml bottles to be shared with my

friends.

The whole process................

Happy making. Make the earth a better place to live in.

I salute garbage enzyme.
